Compassion Compells Us

valarie_hamiltonValerie Hamilton, a Concord, NC's police chief's daughter was found dead on Saturday, September the 18th, 2010 in a storage unit. Hamilton, a swim instructor and Central Piedmont Community College student, was the daughter of Concord Police Chief Meri Hamilton.

Details now coming out about the case is that Hamilton left a Plaza Millwood tavern around 1:30 a.m. with a man police later identified as Michael Neal Harvey - a convicted sex offender. At 3 a.m., Hamilton called a friend and ask that she join them in her apartment's hot tub. Witnesses say there were evidence of drug use.

The theory is that Hamilton OD'd on the drugs and Harvey was driving her to the hospital where it is believed that Hamilton died in route. Harvey, already guilty of several parole violations, panicked and tried to cover it up by placing her body in a storage unit. No signs of physical abuse was found on Hamilton's body.

This story brings me to tears, and my heart aches not only for Valerie - but for the remaining family.

Regardless of the circumstances, this young life is now gone. Her life on this earth has ended and she has entered into eternity, where like every one of us - she will face judgement.

This alone should compell us, as Christians, to do everything possible, even to our own hurt - to reach a lost and dying world for Jesus Christ. We MUST go into the highways and byways and COMPELL them to come into The Kingdom. It is our duty. It is our command direct from the Throne of God. If we refuse - we will have to stand in judgement for it.

This is serious business. And we, as Christians, MUST be about our Father's business, or we will be held accountable.

This story comes on the heels of the suicide death of Denver Broncos wide receiver, Kenny McKinley. He is thought to have shot himself in the head. Statements he made to friends is that he was depressed over recent knee surgery that had landed him on the IR, and that he would not want to live without football.

There is a sad, hurting world out there that needs some Good News. It is our obligation, our DUTY to tell them.

Our job is not to judge or condemn, but to confess Jesus as the Answer to all of their problems. Only Jesus alone can bring peace and fulfillment.

He does not hold our sins against us. The only thing keeping us from spending eternity with God forever, is refusing to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Once we do, He'll clean up the rest, as we trust him and seek Him with our whole heart.

Let this be a wake-up call. Let's be about our Father's business.
