Attended Jimmy Swaggart Bible College in Baton Rouge, LA for a brief time before coming home to NC to work as a youth pastor for Word of Faith Church in Charlotte. Held youth pastor and Minister of Evangelism positions at several churches including Calvary Church in Midland, NC, Revival Center in Matthews, NC, Word of Faith and First Pentecostal Holiness Church. I currently run Christian Divers Dive Club, a scuba diving club formed for the purpose of providing a family-atmosphere for divers on scuba diving trips, and as an evangelistic ministry to other divers. My wife and I currently attend Trinity Fellowship Church (IPHC) in Matthews, NC My TheologyOne of the major influences in my spiritual development has been my mother. I remember night after night, while growing up, my mother would often sit me on her lap and read the Word of God to me. Although dedicated Southern Baptists, my mother would always say, "Reggie, if it says it in God's Word, you believe it. It doesn't matter if it lines up with Southern Baptist doctrine or not. If it's in there . . you believe it." That has pretty much been my philosophy. I take the Bible literally everywhere it is possible. If symbolic or figurative, I look for the literal meaning. This is also a reason I have leaned toward Finis Jennings Dake's notes, who utilizes the exact same philosophy. I may not always agree with Dake, nor should anyone rely heavily upon any man, church or doctrine. The Word of God stands alone. However before you say, "Ah, ha! See, that's where he gets his views! I told you he's nuts!", in all fairness and in order not to be hypocritical, you should walk over to your bookshelf and remove all of your Commentaries, Sunday School books, all other supplemental materials including Bibles that contain "notes" and discard them. My Study Process:In order to gain a deeper or clearer understanding about a certain passage, my first step is to pray. I ask God, through His Holy Spirit, to reveal the meaning of the passage to me. After prayer, I would then go back and re-read the scripture, chewing slowly upon every single word, running cross references - and then read the same passage from a minimum of 3-4 different Bible translations including the Amplified Bible, NKJV, and others. I always read initially in the authorized KJV and then include the others to help gain additional understanding, if needed. At this point is where I would read Dake's notes on the matter and if necessary, run a Internet search gaining other's perspectives. Keep An Open MindI think it is important that we daily fall before God in your prayer time, and ask Him to correct our theology. No man, church or denomination has all the answers. We are a Body comprised of many parts. Somewhere along the line, we are probably missing it in our beliefs - hopefully not the major ones. Daily, ask God to let you know where you are "missing it". If I'm wrong about a certain position, I want to know about it. I'll change my position immediately if the truth is something else. Be honest before God and ask Him to help you. James 1:5 says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."
